Please can someone tell me how to stop the pop-up windows from popping up when I am on the Internet. It seem that lately they are worse than ever and they are driving me crazy.

Go to google and do a search for "Pop up blockers" there are several out there that work just fine.

I think Andy once posted a link to one as well. Try doing a search in BOL for the thread.

Check with your internet provider, they may offer the service. My ISP does and it works very well.

I use the free stopper from PanicWare. It's easy to use, and it even allows a manual override so you can open new windows as needed.

Go to Google and select the Google popup blocker. It is free, and is an excellent blocker. You can override it if there is something you want to see. You can even turn it on and off. I just checked the Google homepage and at this moment it is being featured. Otherwise, it is usually under tools.

Boy, those pop-up ads must really get to you for you to have to post this in the BOL couch! Would you like to talk about it?

I use this one too, both at work and at home.

Two things:

The Google toolbar now incorporates a pop-up stopper. So does Netscape 7.1.

I would exercise major caution on what you choose. Recently, the FTC entered an order against a company which provided pop-up blocking software. That company was one of the worst about GENERATING pop-up ads!

Download some of these programs and you may be getting a trojan.

Just a word of caution about pop-up blockers. After installing PanicWare pop-up blocker and activating the ad blocker in Norton Internet Firewall, a number of sites became non-functional. It took me forever to figure out why my PC wouldn't work properly. Remember that you can turn off pop-up blocking on specific sites if you have a problem.
