Our institution is wanting to move toward a risk based approach on auditing. Does anyone know of any upcoming training sessions related to risk based auditing? Our audit team is not very familiar with the basics of how to set up a risk based program and we would like to receive training, but I haven't been able to locate any.

Try the IIA (http://www.theiia.org/iia/seminars_topic.cfm?topicID=0) and BAI (http://www.bai.org/events/, search under audit). BAI offers both "essentials" and advanced risk based audit seminars.

You might want to also look at some courses offered by the Institute of Internal Auditors. Here's a link to on course on assessing business risk http://www.theiia.org/iia/seminardetails.cfm?semID=92

A risk based approach to auditing requires a framework established from a set of standards. The standards set will direct you to the correct training approach for your auditors. For example, if your organization has standardized on the controls for ISO17799, then you would seriously consider training on an auditor course for BS7799-2: 2002. BSI is your choice here. You may also consider an outside firm to assist you in setting up your framework prior to investing in training programs. Check out Operational Risk for more insight.
