When my boss was in college, his professor used the word "euthenasia" several times in a lecture...and for a brief second, my boss wondered what "youth in Asia" had to do with the day's lesson...

When I was a kid, wipers were wifers.
Hubby says Cherry-Os instead of Cheerios.
Nephew says lellow instead of yellow.
Mom & Dad pronounce Italian Eye-Talian.
My MIL says srimps instead of shrimp. (This one drives me NUTS!)

<--- Says q-pon.

I have a co-worker who says "flustrated" when she means "frustrated." (On a side note, the mom on "Little People, Big World" does this too. Drives me nuts.)

When he was younger, my son always called the remote control the "mo-ken be-trol."

When I was in high school, the song "We Are the World" first came out and a good friend of mine swore the lyrics said, "There comes a time when we eat a certain corn"!

We have several people at my bank who cannot say idea, the say ideal. When did idea add an l onto it? LOL

Also, my Dad has a hard time saying things. For instance, instead of Fazoli's, he says Faziol's. He is also one to add "r"s to words that don't have them.

My health teacher in high school would say hypotherami instead of hypothermia.

My boss awful at this! Here's a conversation he was having with some employees here:

"We have to be pacific when we're requesting documents from customers. We have all gotten a little compliant in how we do things, and that needs to change, myself included."

I'm thinking we might have the same boss Buccs. grin One of my faves is "varitable rate" instead of "variable rate".

Nice to know he's not the only one.

Also I just realized one of my co-workers mispronounces 2 words. I will share her phone conversation:

"Do you like avocades? We made these great avocade enchilades last night and they were so good! But if you don't like avocades you probably wouldn't like them"

More of an eastcoast Italian thing..... that's what we call it too

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this phrase only applies to your mother's sauce, correct? And only if it is meatless?

I was so proud of myself for learning to make fabulous maranara and then all my (East Coast)Italian friends teased me that they NEVER call it sauce. I'm with you Jay...I'm German. But let's face it, Italians make better sauce/gravy/maranara....

Drives. Me. Crazy.

Also, when people say they 'borrowed' something to somebody, instead of 'lending' it. AARRGGHHH!!!!

My husband's family said some things kind of screwy that he picked up as a kid. He can't seem to get rid of some of them, and I stopped correcting him long ago, because he just gets cranky about it....
Instead of 'As a matter of fact..." he says 'matters of fact'...
Instead of 'still' in any sentence, he says 'yet'

And,
he says 'ambliance'. That's just something he can't pronounce, though smile

Yeah, my grandmother always puts a "t" at the end of worse. She is constantly mispronouncing words...but she's old and we just laugh in silence.

Buccs, I can't stand it when people say "1 years old" either. Drives me nuts. Also, saying liberry instead of library.

I live in Massachusetts, and when I was a kid, whenever someone mentioned the Eye and Ear Infirmary, I always thought that it was the Iron Ear Infirmary. In Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville, one of the lines is 'looking for my lost shaker of salt'. I always thought it was 'looking for my lost sugar and song'.

I have a pal who says "checkings account" instead of "checking account." That's a pet peeve.

Hubby says, "I'm gonna drink a couple beer" instead of "beers." We argue that one all the time. I keep tellin him "some beer, a few beers."

LMAO - until right now, I thought that was "looking for my lost sugar and salt" - not shaker! laugh Doh!

My college boyfriend's mom always said "I says" instead of "I said" or "I say". It drove me nuts. "And I says to her..." UGH!!!

I think someone already mentioned this (maybe I did), but it annoys me when someone says axterisk instead of asterisk. Or expecially instead of especially.

The Fleetwood Mac song...line that says "just like a white winged dove".....my 15 year old was singing this in the car and I had to stop her and ask what she was singing..."just like a wild ranger"......

I just laughed and told her what the correct words were...she laughed and said..oh, that makes more sense!

Ugh, we have a member who does that, too. She says "shares checkins'" and "shares savins'" I can't stand it.

My sister is the queen...here are a few. She can't say aluminum at all so she just calls it tin foil. Oldtimer's instead of Alzheimers. Fustrated instead of Frustrated. The last two are like nails on a chalkboard and drive me nuts.

My daughter coined tuna hotfish when she was 2 and we still call it that instead of tuna hotdish.

My other daughter is speech delayed and nothing she says bothers me. smile My son also says lello instead of yellow, but he was delayed as well and I hold out hope that when he is older and in grade school that it will correct itself.
