Thanks for the welcome!
I'm Here4Life because nobody else in this bank wants to take over lending compliance.
I've enjoyed BOL for awhile & found it very helpful in many situations. Thanks!

Am I considered to be a new poster? Either way, here is an overdue intro - I'm also relatively young, I guess... I work in corporate compliance for a large bank in the Carolinas, previously I was the chief compliance officer for a small bank in Indianapolis. Before that, I worked for a large credit union in Michigan managing central operations (deposit ops, fraud prevention, levies and garnishments, etc.) Before that, I worked for Comerica Bank in branch management. Lending compliance is NOT my area of expertise (so you will never see me answering a lending compliance question), but thankfully I don't have to deal with it - in my previous job I had an awesome AVP of Lending Compliance and here at the big bank there are numerous compliance "teams" and I'm on the deposit and marketing side On a side note, I never expected to be a banker. My first degree is in voice and piano performance I wanted to be an opera singer! But somehow my summer teller job right before my senior year of undergrad ended up turning into a career Who knew...

Yes, welcome to all the noobies. I'm not "relatively" young. I am young. I'm only 29, boosh! I'm the AVP of retail sales for a medium sized bank in Oklahoma. I, like Agnessa, never intended on going into banking. I was a music major as well, actually. I got a job at a bank to suppliment my income while in college and it just took off from there. I have been married for 9 years this year and have 3 little girls. One who's 6 and twin 8 month olds. My life is busy, busy, busy.

I would be surprised if any of us actually intended to go into banking. Anyone?

I've never met anyone who wanted to grow up to be a banker....it seems to be a place we land when Plan A doesn't work out.

....it seems to be a place we land when Plan A doesn't work out. That's how it was for me! Growing up, I always wanted to be an attorney, but then I (stupidly!) decided that being an elementary teacher was a better option. So, I went to college to become a teacher and dropped out after one year when I got married and had a baby. My aunt was in banking and helped me get hired as a teller at the bank where she worked. I worked my way up the ladder, left that bank to come to the bank I'm at now and am now the Compliance Officer. Little did I know that reading regulations would consume my day! It almost gets me back to my original plan of being an attorney! I still get to read laws! Either way, this gig totally fits my personality! So, Plan B worked out really well for me!

I actually sought otu bankign while I was in school. I was workign with cash in my current job and thought a teller mgithbe fun. I never expected it might be a career, btu I did change my major to financial services once I was a teller. Wanted to be all sorts of thigns when I grew up, but never a banker. I did however, want an office and to wear business suits, which did happen. Funny though, that I'm sitting here in jeans and my Ugg boots And Spivol, at 29, you can't be young! I'm still 28 for a few mroe months and I'm nto that young anymore, and that's without a hubby and kids. Hehe, but there's always the "young at heart."

I should have people guess how old I am... And it's nice to see other fellow musicians! I've actually met a lot of music grads who work in banking, which is cool. And I honestly think music is what made me good at math.

my only singing is in the shower, and then only if no one is home. Needed a part time job while in college, Dad was a banker and sent me to a former employee for a back office job, been in banking ever since...experience with both the regulators/central bank side of the aisle, as well as commercial banking...

<----Stands corrected in regards to JJ and DD I was a paralegal which opened up the doors to the wonderful world of compliance. I have never worked in a branch, went straight for the fun stuff.

Honestly, I wouldn't go back to working in a branch if they doubled my salary. Ugh... I'll take compliance over branch management anyday.

I don't know.. Dealing with the 'C' level execs every day or the occasional grumpy pants customer? Sometimes I really, really miss the branch environment.

<<<--- doesn't have customers. I am an English major, couldn't support myself, became a banker for 24 (yikes!) yrs, and am also known as DQ, Deek, Deekles, Shiker, Boss (by my minion) and Sot. Welcome to the insanity.
