Hello all. I am thomasj. I have been in banking for 24 years. I am very shy and do not usually share information about my private life online. Thanks for welcoming me. Who is the mystery man?

I've noticed that it seems like more people in the cooler are in some area of compliance than not.

Hi. I am QCL. I have a similar story to Just Jay's involving a Christmas Club when I was 6. My mom showed me that part of "It's a Wonderful Life" shortly after that, where they talk about where everyone's $$ is. I have been facinated by banking ever since. When I was a kid I dreamed of being a "bank lawyer" even though I had no clue what that meant. I thought that I made up the job Then I started college as a Elementary Ed. major and then came to my senses (really I didn't want to screw up someone else's kid) and ended up being a double major in Finance and Marketing and minoring in Accounting. I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up! I'm old, really old = 32. I've been in banking for 11ish years starting as an intern teller in college, then leaving to working in HR benefits consulting, then returning to work in Audit and Compliance. I do both here at our smallish bank. In most banks I'd be called a Compliance Officer or some such thing. Here the officer title is like gold... I'd love to go back to law school though, someday and be compensated fairly for the opinions I give Oh, yeah and 5 years ago I gave my daughter part of my liver. Hence the user name

Hi newbies......I've been in banking for ::cough, cough:: over 22 years. Started in Proof, worked there for 3 1/2 years......loved that job. Transferred to the Loan Dept. because it was closer to home (I was having my 1st child and didn't want to be so far away). A year and a 1/2 later transferred to a branch to work for the VP/Commercial Lender......learned a lot during those 4 years. Then, that bank was bought out by a much larger bank and all positions like mine were eliminated. My boss was head-hunted by this nice little community bank and he asked me if I wanted to go work for him there, so I did. That was 13+ years ago now and have been a Personal Banker/Loan Assistant, Branch Ops Supervisor and 3 years ago took over the bank's training program and became a Compliance Assistant. (Love the training part........compliance.....eh, could definitely leave it). Also, maybe you have guessed by my username......I LOVE bowling and am pretty good at it. Oh......and at the ripe-old age of 40....and after going through a rather rough divorce.....lol......I am having my 3rd child due May 13th......my 3rd son actually.

I've noticed that it seems like more people in the cooler are in some area of compliance than not. That's because compliance makes us all but we can't act like that at work. So we come here.

Been in banking almost 5 years & I don't intend to remain in this business. Who knows, though.. it pays the bills, and I'm not completely miserable. I've worked for the same community bank all 5 years.
Have worked as a teller/CSR & in Deposit Ops.
Currently QC for one my FI's 3 loan processing centers.. last year this LPC processed, booked, reviewed, and scanned over 15,000 loans. My hands touched (and eyes picked apart!) all but maybe 1,000 of those. My eyes cross frequently.
I, like Peepers, am hungry.

I love that we retell our stories periodically. I'm still trying to figure out who's masquerading as thomasj tho? I was an art major in college...weaving and textiles to be exact. If Heidi Klum had started Project Runway sooner (like before she was born!) I'd have been on it. Instead, I took a lunch time replacement teller job to pay for my son's day care so he could get into K with an early bday. From there a number of bank and title company jobs followed sprinkled with time at a RE attorney's. Left the business after a stint as compliance supervisor and went, of all places, to run the business office (think Medicare) of the nursing home my daughter was DON at. Then a dear friend begged me to come help her straighten out her HMDA report and.........7 yrs later here I am! Found BOL when I needed compliance answers. Met some wonderful people here since. Welcome Newbies! Don't be afraid to post in the forums or cooler. You might have an answer we haven't heard.

Like those before me - I didn't plan on a career in banking. What I really wanted to do was be a travel agent to see the world at a discount! I took a job in a little community bank as a teller after my kids both started school. Almost twenty years later (and having spent time along the way doing all the other jobs in a bank except lending money) I was recruited to be the Compliance Officer and Auditor at a larger bank.
I appreciate the information that is shared on BOL. Don't know what I would do without it somedays!!
Thanks for the welcome - and as I keep telling my loan officers and operations staff - we're all in this together!
