I just bought a card game called "Battle of the Sexes". It's the men vs. the women and each team asks the other team questions. For instance one of the women's questions might be "How many lug nuts are on a tire?" and the men's question might be "What is the best way to stop a run in pantyhose?" Yes, it's sexist, but it sounds like it could be fun. Whichever team gets a set number of points first, wins the game.

I got it at Wal-Mart for $3.97.

I think there is the Battle of the Sexes Board Game and then there is a card game. I really like the Board Game, but the competition sure gets tough in my family when we start playing that. My dad (who is never wrong, by the way) will come up with these rules that make no sense to anyone one but him. He just does it to win.

What about Pinochle? I have never played it, but my parents and their frineds used to get together on Saturday nights and play for hours. They really really enjoyed it.

We're really hooked on Canasta right now. Lots of fun. Skip-Bo is a good one for the whole family - pretty easy to catch onto.

Skip-bo is a good one. Uno is another one we like. Then there's Poker, Spades, and Hearts for adult nights.

There is always Cribbage, and it can be played as a 2, 3 or 4 player game. Although you can only do 3 if you have the right kind of board.

Phase 10 is fun for all ages! My great-grandmother (at 105) used to LOVE to play that game. Every time my parents have all their kids home we sit around the kitchen table after dinner and play Phase 10!

All over the map.
The game that we play with the whole crowd is something that my daughter played at a party. You split everyone into 2 teams. Each person writes the name of 3 people(living or dead, real or fictional) on a piece of paper. All these are folded and placed in a bowl. There are 3 rounds to this game, which is like charades. The first person draws out slips of paper and has 1 minute to get his/her team to guess who is written on it. They can use words, gestures, sounds...whatever...everything except the name. Each team takes turns until all the slips are gone. Then round 2 begins. All the slips are returned to the bowl and this time, you can only use one word to describe the person, and no gestures. Round 3, you use gestures and no words. It is really fun when you have a large group with a wide variety of ages. When we played on the 4th of July, during round 3 my 14 year old neice drew out the name Monica Lewinsky, turned red, , said pass, and everyone on her team yelled "Monica".

We will play Uno with my side of the family tomorrow. Friday night with my inlaws we will likely play euchre until the wee hours. (Is euchre a Michigan-only game?)

Hit the Deck and Phase 10 are great games. Can get them both at Walmart. The Phase 10 dice game is fun to and a little faster than the card game.

We used to play Rook a lot when I was growing up. I remember one time my cousin and his college roommate came to stay with my parents and my mom practically propped the college roommate up to play Rook well into the wee hours.

Rook is actually a lot like Pinochle, my favorite card game.

we like to play a a game called "oh s*%t"
so called because at the end of the game if you are left with a ton of cards in your hand thats what you say! It's a version of rummy i think where each hand you are going for a specific grouping ie:
1: 2 books
2: 2 runs
3: 1 book 1 run
4: 2 runs 1 book
5: 2 books 1 run
6: 3 books
7: 3 runs
and who ever gets their hand 1st and gets rid of all their cards ends that round and what ever cards you still have in your hands are points, that add up way to quick!
if any one knows the real name of this game i'd love to know!

Sounds like a plan! I've actually managed to get a double run before. The thousand aces on the other hand....

Is Phase 10 a card game you buy in the store like a Rook deck, or a set of rules played with regular cards like Euchre? I've never heard of it (I'm a bid whist fan myself)
