Dick Francis, the best-selling British thriller writer and former champion jockey, died on Sunday in his home in the Cayman Islands. He was 89.

He was one of my all time favorite authors.

An extremely prolific and well liked author is now writing for God's library. RIP, Mr. Francis. You will be missed.

Loved his books. There is a new one coming out in 2010, one of the ones written with his son Felix. I think "Proof" was one of the most frightening!

I loved how he wove horse racing into the stories, but also like how he would research such details on other industries (like wine merchants, merchant banking, etc.)

Wonderful British mysteries. I will miss him. Definitely one of my favorite authors.

I'm so, so sad. He was one of my faves. I thought for sure he was done when his beloved wife died; I was thrilled when he started writing with his son.

Between losing Robert Parker and now Dick Francis, the literary landscape just got a whole lot bleaker.

I disbelieved what he was saying so hard, I probably created an alternate universe where it wasn't true.

It sounds like his son may keep up the books for lack of a better work. I am sad. I always looked forward to his new books.
