If I Didn't Have a Dog... or Cat......
I could walk around the yard barefoot in safety.
My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated.
All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture, and cars would be free of hair.
When the doorbell rings, it wouldn't sound like a kennel.
When the doorbell rings, I could get to the door without wading through fuzzy bodies who beat me there.
I could sit on the couch and my bed the way I wanted, with out taking into consideration how much space several fur bodies would need to get comfortable.
I would have money, and no guilt to go on a real vacation.
I would not be on a first-name basis with 6 veterinarians, as I put their yet unborn grandkids through college.
The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: out, sit, down, come, no, stay, and leave it ALONE.
My house would not be cordoned off into zones with baby gates or barriers.
I would not talk 'baby talk'. 'Eat your din din'. 'Yummy yummy for the tummy'..
My house would not look like a day care center, toys everywhere.
My pockets would not contain things like poop bags, treats and an extra leash.
I would no longer have to spell the words B-A-L-L, W-A-L-K, T-R-E-A-T, O-U-T, G-O, R-I-D-E, C-O-O-K-I-E
I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as outside.
I would not look strangely at people who think having ONE dog/cat ties them down too much.
I'd look forward to spring and the rainy season instead of dreading 'mud' season.
I would not have to answer the question 'Why do you have so many animals?' from people who will never have the joy in their lives of knowing they are loved unconditionally by someone as close to an angel as they will ever get.
How EMPTY my life would be!!!

LOL! I can relate (especially the part about the poop bags). I'd also add that my house wouldn't look like a snow storm from all the stuffing yanked out of stuffed toys.

Just having been to the emergency vet this morning at 1:00, this one stuck out...

They are all spot on.

I can certainly relate to the "dog hair on every surface." It amazes me how much hair two little pugs (who have short hair to begin with) can shed, and they shed 365 days a year. Anyone with pet allergies is doomed at my house! We have one of those Shed Ender combs and we can get a softball sized wad of fur off of each dog every single day. How are these dogs not bald?????

Dip - have you been to my house? This is EXACTLY what it's like and I can't imagine any other way. We just love our babies to death. Yes, we get aggrevated, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

My little Shadow loves to grab our shoes (if we are foolish enough to leave them on the floor when we take them off) and run thru the house to put them under my bed! I was searching for a shoe the other day, looked under my bed and oh my goodness! Young Shadow has quite a collection of shoes, toys, socks, anything else he has piled under my bed. I know what my project is this weekend!

Mastiff Puppy = 4 Houseshoes for me = 0
Mastiff Puppy = 4 Black Dress shoes for me = 2 (don't look too closely - it's really 1 1/2)
Mastiff Puppy = 3 Garden Hoses for me = 67 (pieces)
One Bull Mastiff 1 year old + One Jack Russell 14 yo + Mom and Daughter Rotts + One Australian Shepherd=
Never boring at our house.

OH HOW I CAN RELATE! Add...
I wouldn't have gigantic holes and trenches all by my flowerbed and in my neighbors yard, too.
Laminate and tile? Oh! I thought that was carpet!

...would mean the Longhorns could rest in peace occasionally. LOL! They aren't cattle. They are my Friends. I HAVE to go see them. They like it when we round them up. They need the exercise! I have tried to 'splain to them that stocker cattle shouldn't be running from one end of the farm to the other everyday but the girls just go deaf!

My house would not look like a day care center, toys everywhere. Oh this is so my house and we only have one little 12 pound dog Toys in every room and yes occasionally it looks like it snowed in the house when a toy gets "old" and she pulls it apart. Ya know, you can only re-sew them so many times And would not trade her for anything.

I feel ya. One of our three dogs is a pug and I think she sheds the most, even though they're all shedding breeds.

One of my dogs is a Corgi mix, and she sheds so badly that you can pluck her like a chicken and she'll never go bald. Big handfuls of loose fur come off everytime I pet or brush her but she's still a fuzzball!

My Border mix looses clumps of hair by the handful. You could make furniture stuffing with her hair!

As a 'grandma' to a husky, lab, doberman and mini-dacshund(sp?), I can say that all of the above are true at "Grandma & Grandpa's" place when they come to visit also!
They do keep life interesting...

I'd also add that my house wouldn't look like a snow storm from all the stuffing yanked out of stuffed toys. I have the same thing at my house. As soon as we pick up all the toys and vacuum, it all begins again.

Oh my, how true! Our black and tan coon hound always keeps things interesting, like... - The countersurfing which led to a frozen roast being licked, sucked, and gnawed upon in a very gruesome fashion all over the carpet (hardwood floor replacement came soon after) - The discovery that with one push of her thick skull on the lazy susan, a delectable smorgasboard magically appeared (you don't want to know what a bag of coconut does to a dog) - The discovery on our part of one bloated, several-day-old deceased gopher waaaay down in the corner cushions of our Lazy Boy loveseat. (Yep, it left a greasy grimey gopher stain -- RIP comfy sofa) - The doe-eyed "What did I do" look after each incident. Non pet owners just don't know what they're missing!
