Wal-Mart probing racist NJ store announcement snip - WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Wal-Mart Stores Inc. officials are reviewing security tapes to try to determine who used a southern New Jersey store's public-address system to tell "all black people" to leave.
Shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday at the Washington Township store, a male voice calmly announced: "Attention Wal-Mart customers: All black people leave the store now."

I saw this, but knowing how feminine her voice sounds, didn't think anyone would confuse her for a man...now, that mullet may have swayed their thought process...

If Charlize Theron was in the store, do you think that she would have left?

I heard that they discovered it was a 16 year old customer that made the announcement on the PA system.
He had been arrested?
Does anyone know what he was arrested for?
If had to do with something such as using the Wal Mart equipment without their consent that's one thing.
But could he have been arrested just for making a stupid statement?
It's not a statement I would make but is it illegal to make the statement at all? Maybe it is in NJ, I don't know.

Harassment and bias intimidation...
I'll see if I can find the article saying that.

interesting
harassment and intimidation for making a stupid comment?
I have no idea about NJ law and this may be a case of it is what it is, a law is a law and you have to obey it or face the consequences
but harassment and intimidation for stating something like this seems kind of severe
maybe it was where it happened that decided the charges

I could see harassment (if I look really hard), but intimidation seems very far fetched, imo.

So...........playing devil's advocate here.............if a 16 year old African American got on the PA system, and ordered all whites/Asians/Hispanics/whatever out of the store, would they be facing the same (if any) charges?

I'm sure they would not face any charges at all. Not fair.

I can't see harrassment as he is not in a position of authority and wasn't an employee. I don't see intimidation either as this general statement was not directed at a specific person, and I didn't hear of anyone leaving the store as a result of the announcement. Also heard that the mother/daughter who he went to the store with may be charged as accomplices after the fact for not reporting the crime and harboring the "fugitive."
Of course, i'm not an attorney, and I don't play one on BOL...
