Pulling people out of the ditc...
|
New Orleans is quickly becoming a location known as Hollywood south, as bouth the state and city offer some great tax incentives to companies to film movies and TV shows. Showtime has a show called Treme that is filming their series in NO, and there have been a couple of articles in the paper of late where the people living in the neighborhood that it is filming in are complaining about the disruptions. It seems that the person whose house is being filmed in is making a pretty penny, but no one else in the neighborhood is getting money, and that seems to be the bottom line argument these people are making.
Certain naighborhoods that have a good association charge a fee to film in the neighborhood, which includes money for local parks improvements, playground equipment, and general neighborhood upkeep. Others, such as where Treme is filming, have nothing so nothing is received. The city has a film office that works with the production companies and the people, and with all the issues we've had since Katrina, you'd think people would be happy with the opportunity for jobs. But, that does not seem to be the case...
How very petty, how very sad...

You can please some of the people all the time, some of the people some of the time, but never all of the people all of the time.

Combined sales of all six movies, $17.65 I'll admit to only seeing Victory (I mean, what other movie can boast having both Stallone and Pele in it?), Breaking Away, and American Flyers. Breaking Away is one of the greatest movies ever...and it has an awesome soundtrack and score...

You can please some of the people all the time, some of the people some of the time, but never all of the people all of the time. I beg to differ. If you are skeptical, check out my post on the subject to see how this can be accomplished.

Happy, filming at one house is surely not contained to just that house. Nor is it likely to not be disturbing to neighbors. There should be compensation for the surrounding community. NOLA should have figured that into their campaign to recruit film makers. jmho To what degree Truff? One lady complained because they asked her to stop mowing her grass, and then offered her $300 and to send a landscape crew to cut it later in the day after filming was done. She said she would stop mowing if they paid her what they were paying the guy to use his house, and paid all the neighbors the same amount. This sure doesn't sound like anything other than wallet-envy to me. Rather than embracing this for the unique opportunity that it is, they are being childish and envious. The city has a film office that does work with the neighbors...in this particular neighborhood, they film a total of 4 days per month, and have several weeks notice that filming is coming. The city blocks off street parking the day before so that production trucks can park, but other than that, there is not really much inconvenience. You can drive down the street, although you may have slight delays - directed by police - as they film.

It may be different if I was directly impacted by the filming, but I have to say I'd love having a filming crew in my neighborhood. It would more than likely be for an episode of Cops, but still exciting.
