Isn't that the truth. I have nothing but the utmost respect for our tellers and the myriad Catch-22 situations they find themselves in each and every day. I have said many times that I couldn't do their job if my life depended on it...I would bite some poor customer's head off at least twice a day! Plus my drawer would likely never balance...

I worked part time as a teller in college, and also when my husband and I first got married right after I graduated. I even started as a teller (many moons ago) at my current bank, where I am now an officer. I enjoyed being a teller, for the most part, but it is so much harder today than in was back then. My hat is off to them, and like Sam said, I would also likely bite some poor customer's head off if I did that job now--I guess age has made me crankier!

Shemp, is there a teller in your shop doing that? Have you brought the issue up to their manager yet?

If a teller feels that they are above other tellers its just sad! There are several tellers that post on BOL who might end up finishing off a question with "But I'm just a teller." Tellers need to realize that their position is crucial to the bank and that even if they never rise above it, they are the backbone that holds the institution together. Also, my wife was a teller when she was in college and she might hurt me if I said otherwise...just kidding!

I applied for this job really wanting just a 9-5 job and would gladly have been a teller (even though my plan would not have been to be one indefinitely, i just really needed out of my old career). I actually was a teller for the first 6 weeks or so that i worked here even though i was told from the beginning that i was going to be the compliance officer. Not sure that i didn't enjoy working the commercial window as much if not more (i enjoyed having the drawer with money and other tellers buying from me...the few times i had to work a different window, i hated it).

Either you have started imbibing early for the weekend JJ, or you need to hear this phrase: "The spellchecker is your friend"...

I started out in banking as a teller and loved it! Senior year of college I got a teller job. As soon as I graduated, that lead to management training, then branch management, then I moved to the back office. But some of my best memories are the summer before senior year when I worked as a teller full time. I loved it and everyone I worked with. I was fast and efficient so they put me in the drive-through full-time and I rocked it! I loved being busy all-day. I would do it again in a heartbeat if I could have my current salary and work as a drive-through teller I think tellers are great, and yes, it's a shame they're often overlooked.

Shemp, are you just trying to be a jerk today or what? I don't get it. Is there something more to this thread Doh? I thought you were talking about how we should all be thankful for the teller help we have. Surely, you were not being disingenuous?

I was a branch manager who also happened to run a teller window at one point in my banking career. I guess by some people's logic, the 10 + years that I did that I shouldn't have claimed to be branch manager.
Having worked from the mail room to AVP, I've learned that all jobs are important and that people who concern themselves with what titles others have (or in general what others do) more than with their own job are generally unhappy, miserable people.

At least when I'm feeling snarky I don't hide it. BTW Cheekee, how did you come to use that little known British phrase meaning "impudent"? I didn't know a lot of people had heard it used before. I have always found it to be quite humorous to use in conversation.

I'm a teller, have been for 4 out of my 5 years in banking.
Thing is, I know more than the people that had more titles than me.

This is why we need a 'like' button, ala facebook.
