My husband and I spent the weekend in North Georgia visiting his mother. We live in south central Kentucky. Getting home yesterday was a nightmare. We usually come through Nashville, but with their flooding that was impossible. We got off of the Interstate and came back roads through Tennessee. Three times we were diverted due to flooded roads. It took about 7 1/2 hours to make a 4 1/2 - 5 hour trip.
Luckily we got home. It's flooded here, too, but no where near as bad as Tennessee.

Oh man, DS. I heard Tennessee got as much as much as 50% rain this weekend as they get in a full year. I'm sure the trip was frustrating, but thank goodness you made it safely!!!

Pulling people out of the ditc...
|
I saw on the weather channel yesterday the number of cars trying to drive through high water, that flooded out and stalled. As they were broadcasting live, people would pull up, see that 40-50 cars were already stalled, sit for a few minutes, and then drive right into the water and stall as well. Okay, when you see a pickup truck with water to its hood stalled, and you're driving a Kia Spectra that doesn't even get to the point of the trucks hood, what would make you think that you'll successfully drive through that high water?

I was wondering the same thing. When we had really bad floods in Indiana in 2008, people were doing the same thing! Just kept driving into the water with their little compact cars, when full-size trucks were already stuck and filled up with water. UGH!

yes, they do...many of the local governments installed them on the city and parish vehicles following Katrina...they stick up several feet over the top of the vehicle.
