When the borrower does not wish to furnish GMI in a face-to-face application, should the lender document the data on the application or on the HMDA input sheet.

I couldn't find an answer in the regulation or Getting It Right guide but feel that the application would be more appropriate since auditors and examiners may not have access to the input sheets and therefore would not know if there was an input error from the HMDA input sheet to the LAR.

OK
I believe it is to be done on the application. To my mind, that is why there is the place to mark "face to face interview" and a place for the LO to sign. It also appears to me that the disclaimer above the GMI on the application indicates this.

yes it should be done on the application. HMDA is purely application driven so all information to support your LAR should be able to be found on the application.

out of the frying pan...
We just have the LO initial in the GMI section on the application when they fill it out 'as observed.'
