FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
ditto - and compliance was just one of the many duties I had tacked on to my other duties.

I think most banks that started compliance programs wanted people who had been in banking a while and knew the various areas, a seasoned banker, in other words. Now that compliance has been established a while, you can easily hire someone in and train them. Couldn't do that 10 years ago...

<--- 29, started in compliance at 25. And it only took the last 4 years to earn respect/confidence from the board members.

35 and been compliance officer since 29. Managed a loan department from 23 to 29...but for some reason that six years feels much shorter than the six years so far in compliance...

<-- 33 years old and I am not the youngest. There are 7 of us in our 30s in compliance and 8 over 30, not counting the 20 or so BSA analysts that we have.

And I take issue with the title of this thread, most young people are not in compliance with the regs!

I'm 32 too (for another few weeks anyway!). Started as a CO at 26 & was young. It seems that I am catching up quickly though as most of my peers seem to be in their 30's & 40's.

My best friend just got a job as a compliance officer at the ripe old age of 26. She started in compliance at 23 or so.

If you know of someone young who wants a compliance job in south Louisiana, point them to my bank.

I have been doing this for 30 years now (at three different banks) and would gratefully accept someone young to take my place.

I also believe that a lot of people were promoted (gee, is that really a promotion?) to Compliance because of their experience in different areas. The reason there are so many older ones of us is that once you get in they DON'T LET YOU OUT!!!! No one else wants the job so I guess it is job security! Ha!

I was 29 when I became the CO........24 compliance years later, I am 53. Have you also noticed that more men are involved in compliance? There used to be only a handfull of men during previous years.

Same staff size = 1. Smaller bank by half (in terms of $$ and branches).

Curled up by the fire...
32 - Used to be Lending CO for 1.4B bank - Now at a nationwide mortgage co.
At the bank, there were 2 of us up until the last year that I was there when we added one more.
They still only have 3.
We have 6 here at the Mortgage Co. directly in Compliance but there are several departments under Compliance that do various things.
