One of our labs is named Hailey, when she was a puppy we called her "Hurricane Hailey" for her energy and destructive style smile I always thought it was cute name.
We also have:
Dietz (after the character on Lonesome Dove)
Hank the Cowdog
Yeller

I just realized all but one of our dogs are named after book or movie characters! I guess we need to be more original! smile

I had a beagle named Hoss once - a husky named Sable - and a hound mix named Marlowe <son named her>. Right now we have Gabriel, Mandalaye, Attitude, and Raphael <Gabe, Mandy, 'Tude, and Rafe>.

I also like names from The Lord of the Rings. I totally want a short, chubby dog (like a basset hound or a bulldog) that I can call Bilbo Baggins. laugh I also think Aragorn would be an awesome name for a German Shepherd or Doberman.

Nerd confession: I really wanted to give our daughter the middle name "Arwen" but that was quickly shut down by the hubby. LOL

You said she was sweet and loving - how about "aphrodite"? Or "Beauty" - yes "Black Beauty" was one of my all time favs as a child.

My neighbor's dog must be named "Quiet!" or "Get Down!" or "No!...Don't!" because that is what I hear him call him. I'm not a dog lover and would like to name him "Keep your poo in your yard" or "Nuisance." Truly, the dog is poorly behaved and constantly barks. I'm thinking the owners just don't care anymore. They are clearly not the "pack leader" as The Dog Whisperer would instruct them to be.

My husband has a black lab and her name is Porter, like the type of beer lol (his favorite type i might add) cause it is dark, just like the dog another thing that helps when we name pets is to take a week and see what little quirks the dog has like excessive sniffing or knawing on things you could name it nibbler or sniffer. smile

I have a Kira and a Koda, which mean "Bear", both girls.

I have a Corky and a Patches and a Jessie, all girls.

I also love:

Rowdy
Isabella and we called our girl Izzie not Bella. (Dizzy Izzie!)

No laugh

I also wouldn't mind getting two dogs someday and name them Kang and Kodos.

Why, yes. He is! And eyeglasses. And shoes. And anything else within his reach smile

Actually, he came with the name 'Rex', which I hated. I tried using 'Dex' and he picked up on it because of how similar it was. He was about 6-8 months old when we got him, so the name was pretty ingrained. And he's not the brightest bulb, so I didn't want to confuse him any more than he already was from being in three different homes... wink

Animal names have 1 set rule: they must be something I can yell when they're in trouble. wink One or two syllables seems to works best. Let's face it, you sound considerably less stupid yelling "Buster!" across the park than "Hermione!" grin
