Oklahoma City just received close to 11 inches of rain in one day. They are calling this a 500 year flood. Does this automatically trigger FEMA to review current maps for possible changes?

There were people being interviewed on the news, in nice housing additions, stating they did not have flood insurance. It made we wonder if there will be a map change for that community in the future.

Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm sure you will have map change in the future - as will we after the flood here and in Nashville in early May. However, I think it will be a little while before that happens.

FWIW, we had record flooding 2 years ago and our maps changed this April. However, they were in the process of looking at the maps when the flood hit, they just took that opportunity to change them a little more.

I have also personally seen it take about 2 years from flooding to map change creating a new flood zone.

Our county flooded in July 2007, and we still do not have new flood maps.
