Geographies are census tracts.

The explanation is in the "definitions" section of the reg. There is always a lot of valuable/needed info in the definitions part of a regulation. Many times much of the reg revolves around how things are defined!

Please understand that geographies aka census tracts are not unique numbers by themselves. To have a truly unique tract number you should also have the state and county components along with the tract number. A unique census tract number has 11 characters and 3 components, State (2 characters), County (3 characters)and tract (6 characters). So tract 1234.01 in State 08 and County 01 really is 080011234.01.

Is there a particular place the geography needs to be listed or can we just put the census tract for the location of the branch under the address?

Also, for the geographies for the assessment area, is it okay to list all of the census tracts on a seperate sheet or do they need to be included on the map?

We list the branch's geography under the address. We include a list of all census tracts and don't show each on the map.

Thanks. Do you label it with "census tract" or "geopraphy"?

Banks list them as census tracts, no one except an examiner would know what was meant by a geography...and the file IS for the public. Banks with very small AAs, and particularly with larger tracts (read rural) will show them on the map. Others just provide a list as the map can get crowded and the numbers won't be legible.
