We have some business customers that drop off their deposits at several of our offices. They don't stay to wait for the teller to count the cash and just come back the next day to pick up their receipts. They do not use our night drop.

How many of you that have this happening require dual control over counting the cash in these deposits? Do you ever allow just one teller to do the deposit when the customer is not present?

We get that through our Drive-up window from time to time. We require dual control.

One of my prior banks had a contract for what were referred to as "Day Drops." We logged them and I believe they were processed under dual control.

You definitely want dual control in this situation. Don't put your Tellers in a bad situation. If the deposit comes up short you want two people to confirm it.

We never allowed it because we had small staffs in many of our offices and couldn't consistently manage the dual control issue. Either stay for the count or use the night depository. Allowing a drop outside of a dual control environment is a loss waiting to happen.
