With record retention there are numerous items that state state you must keep it permanently. If you have a business that has been in business over 100 years. Does permanently equate to 30 years or 50 years, etc?

Thanks

You would have to check with the state, but the general definition of permanent means: forever.

This brings up another questions. Why are some records permanent?
For example, in my state (Tennessee) call reports have a permanent retention. When or why would someone need to see a call report from years ago. We pay to have these stored offsite, but what is the point?

Someone long ago thought it was important.

Most states allow for electronic retention of records. Those musty boxes could probably be reduced to a single CD if scanned, That would take up a lot less space, and be easier to retrieve.
