Do you know the way to ...
Ok, we just had a pretty hefty earthquake about an hour ago (11:15 Pacific time).

Preliminary rating is a 6.5, centered near San Simeon (Hearst Castle).

I'm up in San Jose, about 200 miles away, and we felt it pretty good. Reports are they felt it in LA, too. It was strong enough for us to evacuate the building (I'm on the 3rd floor).

Any of our central California regulars able to report? Is everyone ok?

I need to call my sister, who lives in Long Beach, just outside LA. Thanks for the heads-up!

Hope everyone is OK. After working with the SBA Disaster Loan program for 10 years, I am aware of the shock of this type disaster.

We felt it in the Los Angeles/Long Beach area as well, but just a long rolling quake.

Thanks, KK. I feel better, although I haven't been able to reach my sister yet.

We felt it here in Irvine. I'm on the 4th floor and we were rockin' and rollin' for quite a long time. No damage around here. I haven't heard any damage reports from the epicenter yet. For those not familiar with earthquakes, a 6.5 is a biggie! (i'm a native, they don't bother me much.)

I got her...she and her 2 boys just got home from a walk. They really didn't feel it much, but she had heard it was "a doozie" (put a Texas girl in California, hear her talk, and she entertains the masses).

Looks like there is reports of buildings collapsing in Paso Robles. I've even heard of a winery that suffered some damages.

Can't get in touch with friends in Santa Maria. Phones and email are not working.

http://www.aeic.alaska.edu/Seis/recenteqs/ These all happened over the last few days. I hardly notice them anymore.

We had a 7.9 last year that was pretty noticable. It was VERY long when you start talking earthquake time. We're lucky here because we have such a dense population we rarely have serious injury or damage. Most of our quakes don't even make the news.

The 9.2 in 1964 was a doozy! Although it was devistating here, as someone who's lived in California, it's easy to see how much worse it would have been there!

I hope all are well in todays shaker. But...I do have one concern I want more information on:

We felt it here in the Central Valley of CA. It was quite a roll. I got concerned for my son who is going to school in Fremont. But everything is OK there.

Here's the story on MSN:
http://msnbc.msn.com/Default.aspx?id=3784234&p1=0

3 people were killed and buildings in Paso Robles were toppled.

Down here in So Cal it was more of a rolling motion. At first I thought it was a large truck rumbling by the building, but when I saw the blinds sway, I knew it was an EQ.

Just barely felt it in LA. I have the flu, and thought the room was swaying for other reasons-at first.

We haven't heard from Don. Is he near that area?

Don is fine. I spoke with him earlier today. San Diego is even farther away than I am.

I'm concerned about Al Miller. He's not too far away.

I see that Al Miller is online, so presumably he is fine. Unless someone stole his BOL login...

Thanks for the concerns, but I'm at the south end of the San Francisco Bay, at least 75 miles away. My wife felt it in San Jose, but I did not here in beautiful downtown Fremont.
