Congratulations to you too! 5 years is quite an accomplishment. I think the mindset is the key. Every time I tried before it was because I "should" quit. This time I want to be a non-smoker! Pray for me please, and maybe I too can post that I have hit the 5 year mark one day!

Once I got into the mindset that I "WANTED" to stop smoking rather than "Well....Maybe I should quit", that's when I accomplished not smoking for the past 2 years. And it really was'nt as bad as I thought it would be. No nic patches or pill, I just kept it out of sight and out of mind. Now I comsider myself a non-smoker rather than an ex-smoker Good Luck Elena, once you get a few weeks under your belt it's starts getting easier and easier.. Just don't give up

Elena,,,,you are absolutely and 100%,,,,,right!!!!

When I quit, about 10 years ago, I had been smoking since I was 17, was a 2-pack-a-dayer, and had 2 cartons in the boot of my truck.

The bank went "smoke-free" and I made up my mind that I was not going outside to smoke while standing under an Oak tree in the heat, cold, and rain.

I laid them down then and have never desired one since.

You can do it!!!! Mind over matter!!!! I'm in your corner.

Elena--Why don't you go to the "BOL Couch" and post a "Watch Elena Quit Smoking" post. You can post each morning saying that you did not smoke the day before. Then watch the number of days increase. You will get lots of online support there also. Knowing that we are watching will be a great incentive.

Where the heart is
Elena - You can do it. My husband quit smoking 21 years ago and has never relapsed.

The motivating events for him were:
1. My personal distate for the smell of stale smoke.
2. A raging case of strep throat.

It took him almost 3 weeks to get over the strep throat. Needless to say, inhaling hot and harsh smoke was the LAST thing he could think of while his thoat was on fire. When he got over it, I gently pointed out that he had remained smoke free for 3 weeks and, even though he was really sick, he was much more pleasent to be around.

Personal Worst of 2003: Lots of stress. But it is all a learning experience, so if that is my personal worst I think I'm ok.

"New" thing in 2003: Moved out of my parents house!!! Party at my apartment!

"Old" thing I stopped in 2003: Biting my nails

Same old thing I love that I kept doing in 2003: I don't know, but whatever it is, I'm going to keep doing it.

Thanks. The support here is incredible. Normally I would be ready to eat my own head at this point [right around 38 hrs. (I had to stop and count, that's a good sign also)], but knowing you are all rooting for me is great incentive!

Both T-girls are soooooo happy. I think they actually started a "Let's help Mom Campaign". Little T-girl just comes up and hugs me whenever she sees me and big T-girl has text-messaged me several times to tell me how proud she is of me. That's enough to make me smile through the withdrawal symptoms.
