As a New Branch Manager and I've not worked on the teller line in some 15 years. I'm being hit with a ton of check cashing questions. Is there guidience out there maybe do's and dont's of proper check procedures?

On the bright side, at least he's asking!!!!

My biggest issue with branch managers is (1) failure to get clerks to provide Reg CC exception hold notices for large check deposits (over $5,000) and (2) failure to report any sort of SAR activity.

Otherwise, I'm not aware of a general guideline.

Your bank should have procedures in place for this.

Check to see if there's anything in your new teller training materials. They should be covering endorsements, internal teller check cashing limits, identification procedures, etc.

Pulling people out of the ditc...
Reg CC is an admirable place to start, but unless you have legal training not always easy to decipher. Check with your bank for internal procedures and guidelines, and also check with your state banking association to see if they have something they offer - most do, although possibly at a minimal cost.

Just a f.y.i.
The shortened hold time now really isn't long enough to 'cover'some questionable items (questionable customers). Consider the option of sending checks in as a collection item in order to mitigate risk of loss on those items.
