Thank God there are enough good people left to keep us civilized and human.

Last Monday I came up with the idea to try and get donations from family, friends and co workers to fill 150 halloween bags to send to Bagdad where my son is stationed. And I wanted to get it all done to be able to get them in the mail by tomorrow.
In a matter of 4 days we collected enough to ship 24 boxes to my son filled with 277 Halloween Bags surpassing our goal by almost half. We filled them with candy, popcorn, Slim Jims, pretzels, granola bars, letters, cards and lots of love. We also collected enough money to cover the shipping costs, which will be about $350.00.

And as if all of that wasn’t awesome enough, we also have matched 2 soldiers to a group from Milwaukee and an individual who were looking to adopt someone. That alone makes all of this worth it.
So yes Virginia there are some AWESOME people left!!

Is it possible to keep this thread going? It's the best "news" I've read in a very long time!

Its been only 11 days since the last post. What, do you think good news in the banking industry grows on trees?

Not sure if this qualifies as good news but I thought it was sweet.

I was eating lunch with my hubby yesterday and an older gentleman came over patted my husband on his back, thanked him for his service (hubby was in uniform), and then paid for our lunch. We tried to refuse but he insisted.

Pedaling along a scenic highwa...
Being in a military town, that happens here quite a bit. I think that gesture is especially humbling for a young soldier. It makes a profound impact.

During our big ice storm last January, a group of linemen from one of the electric companies came into the steakhouse where we were eating. We sent a $100 gift card to their table, but the manager caught us before we could leave because they weren't allowed to accept it.

I guess with all the outages, there were a lot threats and bribes taking place. Very sad.

Either way, they know how much they are appreciated, and that was really the goal.

Brings tears to my eyes (or could it be from the fire packs?)

My husband and I were having lunch at Chick Fil A several months ago. After we ate he went back up to the counter, paid for something and then came back to the table. I asked him what he had done. He had paid for 4 chocolate milkshakes for the servicemen seated in the back of the restaurant and then we left before they were delivered.

HERE! I'm here!
People used to do that for my husband all the time, at least thanking him when he was in uniform, don't know that anyone ever bought him lunch, but he said his response was always, "Thank you for showing us what we're fighting for" He said that there are so many negative people it was always nice to have someone say thank you, whether it was for his choice of career, or for passing the salt, it's always nice to hear the words.

I agree Munque it is nice to hear regardless. He gets thanked a lot when out in uniform. The lunch was a first for me but he said people have done it before. He does not like accepting but most don't take no for an answer. Like he says "I am just doing my job".
