We only have 1 ATM machine and it is the drive thru lane at the bank. Are we required to have the ATM setup with voice information as required by the ADA? I am having trouble finding guidance on this issue. Thanks.

To be compliant, a drive-up ATM has to have the audio features required by the ADA. As a drive-up, it's not subject to the base clearance requirements. The reason you will need to accommodate visually-impaired individuals? They can be in the rear seat of a vehicle.

John, does this also hold true if the bank also has a walk-up ATM at the same location that is fully ADA compliant?

But, Bob, what if the blind person doesn't want to walk to the walk-up? He wants to go through the drive-up. laugh

Answered my own questions. But it is tricky...

If you have two or more ATMs in one location, then only one needs to be fully compliant. HOWEVER, if a branch has interior and exterior ATMs, they are considered seperate locations. i.e. if you have a drive-up only ATM and a walk-up ATM in your vestibule, they are considered seperate locations and both are to comply.

Makes perfect sense. You know how often you see two ATMs side by side - happens all the time.

Brenda, here is not only the side-by-side ATMs, but the next step of the ADA.
