out of the frying pan...

I'm not a hunter but have friends and family that hunt so there's usually plenty of venison to go around. I'm too lazy and would miss the HDTV. I don't believe they fit in tree stands.
I was told a long time ago that venison couldn't be purchased at local butcher shops, at least in WI. It probably has something to do with regulating it. I would love to be able to purchase some (year round if possible). I could eat deer jerky morning, noon and night (and even fourth meal). What about second breakfast?

<<<<<----want's some deer jerky now. I am just a month away form getting some jerky. I get two deer each year, one goes into sausage and deer burger (great for chili) and the other we make into jerky.

Oh yeah!!! By the time to you strip all the meat off, you only have about 40-60 lbs of meat, depending on the deer. Cut, season and dehydrate and then put into baggies, and we end up with about 50 bags. Divide it up between the parents, bro and sister and it is gone too fast.

Love, love, love venison jerky! And I have some venison salami and summer sausage in the freezer right now from my Montana relatives. Hmmmm, think one of those will need to come out of the freezer today.

Never tried the salami, will have to see if I can find a recipe or someone around here who processes it that way.

Most of my family processes their own deer. My brother-in-law comes up with new stuff every year. We've had brats and meat sticks and jerky and polish sausage, to name a few.

They spotted a mountain lion here a few weeks ago. Honesetly, I guess there is no reason that they couldn't be here - plenty of food. Scary, though.
Step daughter hit a deer about a week and a half ago in Georgia.
