Our Thanksgiving, for a second year in a row, is just the three of us - me, hubby and mini-me. I am making my mom's famous recipe - large turkey breast which I roast with halved apples, raisins and almonds. The way it comes out is amazing. I will also make "kopytka", which are Polish potato dumplings (similar to gnocchi) since my husband requested those instead of mashed potatoes. I am also making green bean casserole. Other than that, I am a semi-homemade type of person and I'm not ashamed to admit it. We're having Stove Top as the stuffing (it's my husband's favorite anyway), Ocean Spray whole cranberry sauce from a can, and I ordered a pumpkin pie from the local bakery. Hey, it's just the three of us, I'm not going all out. I should probably buy a lot of wine, since my MIL is arriving the day after Thanksgiving and staying with us for 8 days. I will need to be drunk to survive the week without ending up in jail for homicide.

You are going about this all wrong. Drug the MIL and let peace reign. Then go get some wine, vodka, gin and moonshine.

I'm still hoping for a plane malfunction, where the window next to her seat breaks open and she gets sucked out of the airplane mid-flight. In my fantasy world, nobody else would get hurt as the plane would be able to make an emergency landing. You're right, wine isn't strong enough... I think a baseball bat to her face would do the trick though. The only good thing is that I have to work on the day after Thanksgiving and the whole following week, so I will only see her when I get home from work and on the weekend.

One of the unforseeen advantages of living in the same area as MIL is that they never, ever come stay with us.

Aggs would you please tell me how you roast your turkey with apples, raisens and almonds. That sounds wonderful. It's so good. My mom made it up about 15 years ago and it's been a hit with everyone who's ever tried it. It's now our Thanksgiving staple. I thaw a frozen turkey breast. Once thawed, I rinse it and pat it dry. I lightly sprinkle it with salt and pepper on all sides, then I sprinkle with paprika (it adds a nice color to the skin). Then cut about 1 tbsp piece of unsalted butter and tuck it under the loose skin. Place the turkey breast in roasting pan. Add 4 apples, peeled and halved or quartered, add a generous amount of raisins and raw almonds. Add 1 cup of room temperature water. Cover the roasting pan - I have a roasting pan with a lid that's perfect for this. Roast in oven, covered, for about 2.5-3 hours at 350. With about an hour left, take out, uncover, use a large spoon or soup ladle to spoon the sauce over the turkey. Recover and put back for the remaining hour. The sauce this makes (combination of turkey juices with the apples, raising and almonds) is soooooooooo good. Plus, the smell of this turkey recipe when it's baking is amazing. When you carve and serve the turkey, make sure you get a good spoonful of the apples (they're pretty mushy and delicious at this point) and the sauce with the almonds and raisins.

Cousin Eddie will be looking for the green bean casserole However, that fat ass Stephen (with a 'ph' because he thinks he's all that) will have eaten enough for four people so Eddie won't get any Then, the British husband on the other side of the family will bring some bread pudding or something equally as disgusting No one will eat it except maybe for T-Bor, the exchange student that a cousin is sponsoring

Another cousin, Sara (she doesn't have an 'h' because that rat bastard Stephen stole it) will probably puke up her whole dinner two minutes after eating it. She says she's on a diet but I don't understand how she can eat one whole pumpkin pie yet remain so thin
