IRS Delays Filing for Taxpayers With Itemized Deductions

WTH! Delayed filing AND no increase in the standard deduction or exemptions from last year!

I file on April 15. I'm not mailing that check a day sooner.

Low income women and children will be hurt the most, they will be driven into the waiting arms of fee-based tax preparers to get their taxes done on an estimated basis and then accept the offer of a refund anticipation loan.

Estimated tax preparation and a RAL will cost them $500 to $1000.

Then half these people don't have a banking relationship, and they will pay on average 5% to cash the RAL check at a check casher, payday lender or pawn shop.

There is a lot to be said for some system to replace our God awful income tax.

OK, I file as soon as I can, btu considereing I have to wait until almost February to even start due to waiting for my W2 and other forms, how is this that big of an issue? I normally don't have my taxes done until this new delay anyway.

I know, I know!! It's stupid. I mean I'm not one of those "I get $5,000 - 15,000 back!

But it's soooooooooooo nice getting that check direct deposit!

I file as soon as I get all my paperwork, and this kind of ticks me off. Now I have to wait because the IRS can't get itself together, but they aren't giving anyone extra time to compensate for it? Just because many people tend to wait until the last minute doesn't mean that everyone should suffer for the pathetic nature of our government at work.

Maybe if Congress hadn't waited until the second last week of the year to pass/renew tax stuff! The IRS was waiting on them!

Well just great considering I have to file with FAFSA in January so my daughter's application to a UC campus can be processed in time for the fall semester.

Ugh! What irritates me is that I KNOW we are not going to qualify for any financial aid, but we still have to fill the darn thing out or the UC won't process her application to enroll.

Maybe a Stafford subsidized, or even a Stafford unsubsidized, but don't do Parent Plus!!!!!

We have a Stafford unsubsidized. Took one look at the Parent Plus rates and said "Nooooo Thank You!"

I just found out that I'm going to have to wait to file since I have to use a regular 1040 this year and not the 1040A.

Even with my mortgage interest I get more with standard deductions.

I always take the standard.

Ugh - apparently this year I can't (well, I can, I just can't use the easier form) due to having an HSA.
