Does it spell out in the Act how new the fingerprinting must be? We have some lenders that have been fingerprinted for other areas of the bank and we're wondering if we can submit those.

The way I understand it, fingerprints must be taken at an NMLS approved location, selected from their list. They have created an excellent informational page on the website, which I have found extremely helpful. It can be found at: http://mortgage.nationwidelicensingsystem.org/fedreg/Pages/GettingStartedFedCo.aspx

Once you have accessed this page, scroll down about halfway and view their sample workflows.

Hope this inforamtion is helful.

This link will take you directly to the fingerprinting details and when and how you can use existing fingerprints.

One of the things it doesn't seem address is this: if we've recently had an MLO (for other purposes) fingerprinted by the State Police, and we've received a report back from the FBI, do we still need to submit those same fingerprints to NMLS just to have the same report?

I think that would be a GREAT question to ask at one of those webinars they are having!

Our plan was to have our Security Officer (retired State Police) order fingerprint cards from the FBI and take fingerprints for submission to the registry. Can we not take that route?

What webinars are you referring to? I would love a link if this is something the NMLS is offering. While I feel very up-to-date on the SAFE Act Rules, I'll admit that I've been neglecting staying up to the actual registry requirements.

Here you go CR! There will also be other training avenues hosted by the NMLS. Just click the Training link on the left hand side of the screeen on the following link.

beegee, you should review this link and see if what you are planning to do meets the NMLS's requirements. Also, you could always call the NMLS and ask them.
