I've been seeing TV commercials about Walmart cashing checks for a $3 fee and $6 if over $1,000. I do not find them on the MSB registration list. Is there something "special" about Walmart that they would not have to register?

That is a very good question. I am only aware of the state registration lists - is there perhaps a national one? Or, I remember a while back they were trying to have their own bank or something, is it possibility that they have these check cashing rights under something else?

They also have their own money transmission services.

Are they an agent of another MSB?

Based on the number of branches, I always think of them as the largest MSB in the US.

I think I read somewhere--maybe on the MSB registration form--that an entity registers once and lists all the states in which they do business. So, maybe Walmart is registered in the state where their corporate headquarters is located.

According to their site, they use 3rd parties for their financial services.

They were registered out of Arkansas, until late last year.

So what changed that they are no longer registered?
