I'm sorry,no personal experiences. I know its associated with bone pain, breaks in the ribs and spinal compression. Constant infections, and sometimes pneumonia. It reduces the imune systems ability. There can be anemia, confusion. I think they biopsy the bone marrow to prove diagnisis and then chemo if its confirmed. But there are a lot of variable.
I hope that what ever it is, it works out well for you.

I went to my oncologist yesterday. Been going for a year or so now. My WBC is low, by protiens to high...Not showing symptons of anything else only some neck and back pain. Next step if tests aren't better in six months, we will have to do the bone marrow biopsy. Ouch....Keep me in your prayers. Thanks...

FWIW - my sister had a bone marrow test years ago. They extracted the marrow from her pelvic bone. She was back to work that afternoon. I don't think it was fun, but it wasn't horrible.

Best of luck, Dylnn and keep us posted. Prayers have been said for you.

I had a bone marrow test about a year ago and the worst part was all the cotton they stuffed in it. Once that was gone it was good...it was late in the day so I was back at work the next morning. The thought of it was MUCH worse than the actual test. Good luck!

Dlynn - the International Myeloma Foundation has good information on their website. It is at myeloma.org. They have information that you can download and print or have sent to you. The various methods of treatment - types of chemo drugs used, bone marrow transplants (whether autologous (your own stem cells harvested) or donor). They continue to come out with new drugs for treatment of MM and have made many advances in the past several years. Those two blood indicators are important and neck and back pain are also symptoms. Praying for the best for you.
