Can a bank REQUIRE a farmer to have crop insurance as a condition of a loan approval for a crop input loan? Or can the bank only suggest the farmer consider crop insurance? I don't have much experience in these types of loans would appreciate any help!

I don't know of anything that prohibits you from requiring crop insurance. We've required certain borrowers to maintain crop insurance depending on the credit risk. In my opinion, it's the same as requiring insurance on building or equipment, if something happens to the crop and they don't have any other way of paying the loan, either require insurance or don't make the loan.
