Kitten, you knee issues seemed to have rubbed off on me now. cry

I ran 3 miles yesterday and around mile 2, started to have s twinge in both knees. The pain in the left knee subsided, but the pain in the right got considerably worse. I probably should not have pushed for the last mile, but I did. The right knee remained a dull ache for most of the day and I was on my feet all afternoon.

I had a chiro appt later that evening and mentioned it to him. There was a catch in my saccrum (sp?) that he adjusted and then he looked at both knees. They are both tracking wrong with the right being the worse. He pushed a little on and around them and they were sore (no swelling.) Within the next 30 minutes, I had a sharper pain running from my knee to my ankle on the right side. I actually had to take something to get rid of the discomfort.

So, now I need to decide: sports medicine doctor, eval at the Sports Medicine running clinic, or chiro. This is a reoccurring knee problem and the sports med doc didn't find anything the last time I went to him 2 years ago and I ended up in PT. This was my 3rd time in PT for the knee. The chiro said he could take x-rays to see if anything was out of alignment and able to be adjusted. Or I could do the eval and see what they find and get their opinion.

The knee is okay today. My legs just feel fatigued.

out of the frying pan...
Do you have one of those clinics near you that does the "in motion" xrays? It may be something that won't show up on a still shot.

Using SIMIā„¢ motion capture and analysis equipment, our running specialists will evaluate your stride and then design a training program to improve your running technique. Ideal for runners of all experience levels, the 45-minute, two-camera video analysis includes running mechanics, gait evaluation and performance recommendations.

They also have an option musculoskeletal evaluation that I would probably opt to do as well.

Are you're roads crowned? In Okla they are quite a bit and running the same route in the same direction all the time causes big issues with knees and hips. Just changing route and varying side of the road (obviously, only when safe to do so) can help. After a while you get the "one leg is shorter that the other syndrome"....
I would definitely get evaluated though.

That's what I have. Try a knee strap...it helps. Also when I "run" I stay focused on my knee, sort fo willing it to be strong and not get too jarred. The cushier the running shoe the better for this. My faves are Saucony. Seemed to be the cushiest and were comfortable.

Knee strap (the best ones have a loop closure, where the strap goes througha loops and doubles back): http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Band-Sports-Kneedit-Support/dp/B000VZM08Y/ref=pd_sim_sg_3

Love these shoes (as in, I buy the new model when they come out and keep wearing them): http://www.roadrunnersports.com/rrs/products/SCN927/
They some in pink/white/silver... wink

*drags in*

I don't have any good updates. Work has been gruesome lately so my training consists of walking from the car to the building and from the building to the car.

I think it will calm down this week, so I am going to get back to it today. Time is running short!

I've been dragging a little, myself - the thick layer of pollen coating the area hasn't been good for my breathing, but I'm trying to get used to it. I did, however, drag the hubby out with me yesterday morning - running is easier with eye-candy, and running further/easier than him is a huge ego-boost. wink
Now maybe I can bust his chops into working out with me!

TAK - when is your race, again? Coming up soon, yes?

I only have 90 days left to get in some sort of shape. It's July 31. I had thought I would be so much farther along by now than I am. cry

90 days - you're totally good! You have the right attitude, and don't forget, you can always take a few short walk-breaks and still have a decent time. (That thought keeps me going, especially since I only have two weeks...)

You can do it Kitten!

I've started running before work and love it. It's so peaceful at 4:30am. I managed to pull off a 4.2 mile run in 50 minutes this morning. I'm pretty proud of myself - longest distance yet by a full mile.

Ali is so right! You have plenty of time and you will be fine. You have done so much already. You are more prepared than you think. Run when you can and try to relax. I'm an insomniac and sometimes run at 3:00am (Don't set you alarm for this kids. I just do it instead of staring at the ceiling and it's safe where I am). The point is you will get this as you can. It's for your heart and lungs and legs, yes; but its also for your mind. Relax and enjoy. You are on top of it. smile

Dropped my bike off for a tune-up yesterday. As soon as I get it back, the "riding to work" portion of the program will begin. smile

::Wondering about Shasta hopping up & down on her bike:: Great for both of you! Not so much great bike riding here in Oklahoma. There are some decent single track courses, But riding for purposes of commuting is tantamount to taking ones life in hand! LOL

I'm pretty lucky, there is a bike path that goes most of the 7 miles to work. I only have to be death defying for about 1 1/2 miles.
