I will have to try it. Have you tried Dogfish's porter. (See the WINE thread for more intoxicating discussions.)

How do you know if your kids are overwieght? I want my kids to be happy. I don't want them to struggle as adults but I don't want them to be too concerned as children.

I am talking about my daughter. 58" and closing on 100lbs at 11years old. She is not fat but she has a "tummy". I don't think she should have washboard abs, but again, I don't want her to get too large. I DO NOT tell her she is overweight. I DO NOT push her to eat less. I DO encourage her to eat healthy. I DO NOT want her develope eating disorders.

I am just concerned. She is about the quickest on on her basketball team. When she plays PG, the oposition can not get down the court for a layup without her beating them to the basket. She can play a 3-game tny and bounce 'till the end of the last game. She is in shape (?)

I just want the best for my kids.

My son is shaped liked I was. He will look good until about 30 and then one day he will wonder who stole his body.

If she is eating healthy food in moderation and actually getting excercise, that's all you can do. It sounds to me like you have nothing to worry about.

I worried about my son who, at 5 years old, weighed 70 pounds and was less than 4 feet tall. I talked to his pediatrician and the doctor wasn't concerned at all. My son is extremely solid and the doctor looked at family history to make sure it was "normal".

That may be something you could do, talk to your daughter's doctor and make sure that he/she is not concerned.

All over the map.
I wouldn't sweat it. My daughter, at 11, was a couple of inches shorter than yours, and weighed 89lbs. Now that she is 14, she is 5'3" tall, and weighs 112. She is a beautiful size. Softball and cheerleading have had lots to do with this. With your daughter playing basketball and eating healthy food, I think you will be in the same situation I am in a few years. Keep an eye on her, and if you or her doctor get worried, then address it. But until then, I think she is right on track.

11 Year-old boys are not interested in 11 year-old girls.

Older boys interested in 11 year-old girls end up in the river.

I know quite a few girls in my daughter's class - 7th grade - that seemed heavy last year. All of a sudden over the summer they all grew about 3 inches and now they look good. My daughter has the opposite problem - she's skinny. I guess we worry about weight because it is so ingrained into us by the media.

Walleye Wench - your name has my undivided attention. I am sure you are right. My wife is 5'9 (shortest in her family) and I am over 6'. She has the potential to be tall.

They (5th graders) played a 7th grade team this week. The got crunched but it was great to see my daughter sprinting downt he court to "head off" a girl "head and shoulders" taller than she. She made them work for it!

By meida I believe young girls pay the highest price. Short shirts and low pants combined with an image of pop stars is a tough standard. Eating disorders are very common and very unhealthy.
