This may require some thought. Describe the oddest (such a word?) item that you have in your possession? It has got to be really odd....not just unusual. (It may be something that you wish you didn't have.)

For example, a friend of mine has a monkey (looks like it is carved) holding a cigarette in its mouth, has wings and is dressed in angel robes.

I'm still trying to think about items I may have.

The first thing that comes to my mind may not be 'odd' in the sense you're thinking. I have an antique violin that my great-grandfather played. He died back in the 1800's. I played this violin through high school and it has mother of pearl inlaid in a pattern on the back.

The first thing that pops into my head is a watch fob (a short strap, ribbon, or chain attached to a pocket watch) that my father gave to my son. It belonged to his great-great grandfather. The strap is tan and white cow hide with brass hardware and an ivory horse head at the end. Very unique, but very few people know what it is. It's in his baby book, waiting for him to get old enough to appreciate it.

Okay, I have a key-ring that my brother made in HS, when he worked at a place that made sinks, vanity tops and other decorative stuff. He killed a scorpion, by impaling it on a needle. After it was dead, he made a faux marble base (kind of shaped like a kite, but with a flat top), put the scorpion on it, built up a clear coat around it, and screwed a tiny metal ring into the top. Hence, my scorpion key-ring. I inherited (stole) it from his room after he died. Mom didn't really want it, it gave her the creeps, and at 16, I thought it was one of the coolest things I had ever seen.

I have a monkey just like that!!

Just kidding .

I guess the oddest thing in my office is a little two-inch figurine of a monk (that a friend bought in Rome). He's a plump little monk dressed in his brown cowl and cap, sandles, a rope belt round his waist, the most peaceful look on his face -- and he's holding in his two hands -- 8 sausage links.

okay i'd say the oddest thing i have at home is my "naked baby" lamp... it is this large table lamp that my dad must have bought in the 70's, it's ceramic (heavy as all get out) and has these naked angels on the base of it, i almost can't explain it... anyway my dad had two of these, they were in our basement for forever until my older brother and his wife got married and got an apartment, well they didn't have much so they gave them the naked baby lamps. then years later they moved back home, while moving they left one of the lamps behind, and gave the other one back to my mom. so when i moved out it came to me. We now say it's a family heirloom! i promies my oldest neice that she could have it next. so the naked baby lamp sits proudly in my house. My husband wanted me to enter it in an ugliest lamp contest.
Oh and did i mention it was painted like burnshed (sp) gold... real classy!

How about an opium pipe? It's actually a piece of wrought tin sculpture, but an opium pipe nonetheless, in the form of a butterfly, from Thailand. My mother bought it for me when she was there and convinced US Customs that it was for educating her HS Honors World Literature class. They let her bring three of them in! LOL... I still tease her about smuggling...

A little gold box, maybe 4x6 inches if that, with the ashes of our deceased pet skunk. We kid that someday our children or grandchildren will have this box with some wild story of who Salvador was - probably way more interesting than "a skunk".

I have a small table-top Venus de Milo-style plaster bust that's painted, like, six different colors in vertical stripes and has a TV antenna attached to its head. I...don't know why. However, I saw it one day in some kind of curio shop (sort of like Curious Goods from the Friday the 13th TV series) and I knew it must be mine.

This is probably the weirdest thing I own. I have a full braid of hair probably 20" long that was my grandmother's. When she became a young woman it was not fashionable to have the long hair of a young girl so she had her braid cut off and she kept it. When she died, I got it. It is over 80 years old!

I have several odd things so I'm having a hard time trying to narrow it down. Does one choose the moose poop jewelry? The stinky water from "Bath" England? (cute little jar) My collection of Victorian Posion Bottles? A shoe from the 17th century? Wait! I know, the Victorian Tear Catcher!!!

It's a silver vial that is about 2 inches long and about as fat as a pen. It has a little pin on the end of a 2 inch chain which you attach to your jacket. It was a funeral gift back in those days. When someone died you'd open it up, collect the tears and screw it back closed to remember the tears you cried for them.

This was too easy a question...how about the Tackyest (is that a word?) thing you own, LOVE and actually DISPLAY but know it's tacky as heckfire?

(the naked baby lamp is already in that group)

I'm going to have to think about this...It's probably my new paperclip holder here on my desk that says "It's good to be QUEEN!" which Suzie (Bol'er) gave me I love it!

I think the lamps have it! I have a "minuteman" lamp, complete with lampshade that has these gaudy sketches all over it. Pretty tacky!!!! (my 6 yr. old grandson thinks it's "AWESOME GRANDMUTHER" , so guess who is getting the lamp VERY soon!)

Where the heart is
I have the base of a trophy won by Swoon's Son. The base has an engraved plate naming the horse, the jockey (Eddie Arcaro), the owner, and the trainer, but not the actual race.

The trophy itself was probably detached and melted down years ago.

Still, it's a neat conversation piece.

Did you get a camel with it? Or even a camel sweater?
