Since I know we have a lot of readers on the boards, what are you currently reading? And would you recommend it?

I've been reading Dana Stabenow's books, which are mysteries set in Alaska. The heroine is a Native American. They're pretty well written and I feel like I'm learning stuff about Alaska.

Dawnie, have you read these? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts if you have.

I would recommend them if you like mysteries. As they get further into the series (ie, more recent), there is a little more sex than I would like (don't clutter up my good mystery with that stuff!) But the story overall is good.

Hey EGB! I'm currently reading The Beach House by James Patterson and Peter De Jonge. It's awesome!!! Probably older but it takes me a while to catch up on new releases. It's easier to follow that some of Patterson's other books.

I just finished "Odd Thomas" by Dean Koontz, it was pretty weird, but cynically funny!

I'm reading Ada Blackjack by Jennifer Niven. It's about an Alaskan woman who led a group of explorers on an Arctic expedition in the 1920's and she was the only survivor. Here's the link to Amazon.

I'm currently reading Danielle Steele's Irresistable Forces. I like her books when I need something easy to read that I don't have to think about.

I've been on a Nora Roberts kick... seems my brain can't handle deep intellegent stuff during the winter months... plus it's just a good read...I'm reading the "dream" series.

"Bankers' Threads", by BOL.....good stuff. I recommend.

I've been re-reading the "Foundation" series by Isaac Asimov. Too much new stuff happening right now - wanted something old and comfortable.

Mary Higgins Clark Loves to Sing/Loves to Dance . While I have enjoyed some of her other books, I'm not too sure about this one....seems like I am stuck in the middle of the book. I just don't seem to want to start reading it again.

Right now I'm churning through a science fiction novel, Orphans of Earth. It's pretty good.

Also I'm reading a brief collection of Texan legends of lost treasure and silver mines that I picked up at the state museum here in Austin. It was originally released in 1936 or something. Maybe a bit earlier, I forget. It was compiled by the legendary folklorist J. Frank Dobie, whose name is on several buildings throughout the state. Unfortunately it's permeated with the casual racism of the day, including use of the n-word, referring to African-Americans as "darkeys", rendering their speech in a crude dialectical fashion, and making casual observations about the innate laziness and unreliability of Mexicans. This angers up my blood and I cannot help but wonder if perhaps books being sold in an institution run by a state agency should perhaps be vetted a little more closely. I'm not really keen on my tax dollars supporting the sale of this volume. Maybe it should've been edited to a new version. I'm down on censorship, but I'm really not too happy about finding such vile references in a public institution.

Even though it has been several years since I've played Magic: the Gathering, I still follow the storyline, and make it a point to pick up (and eventually read) all the novels. As of now, I just started reading Legions by J Robert King.

For the past two weeks I've been reading GMAT stuff. Not a good read.
After Saturday, I hope to start reading "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy."

The Body Language of Horses...it's very interesting, but wouldn't recommend it to anyone but a horse person!

Just finished reading several books. "Stone Cold" by Robert Parker is the third in his new Jesse Stone series. It was probably one of his better books in the last few years. Also read "Salem Falls" by Jody Picoult which I passed on to my wife who is now reading all of her books. Also finished "Mirror Lake" which was a first novel by a writer from Vermont whose name escapes me at the moment, but the book was pretty good for a first effort. I am now in the middle of "The Keeper's Son" by Homer Hickam, the author of "October Sky" which was a great book and movie. As you can see, I have not been getting too much sleep this long New England winter!

Kiss the Girls by James Patterson. Some of his stuff tends to get a little too descriptive for me but yet I can't put it down. Think I'll start Seabiscuit next - saw the movie yesterday and loved it.

Since I finally had a chance to see The Return of the King, I'm reading the original for comparison. I've enjoyed it every time (second time reading the series).

Just finished The Hobbit.

Yes, I would recommend it (but be careful, J.R.R. Tolkien is "Hobbit-forming").

Just finished Chuck Colson's and Ellen Vaughn's Being the Body, which I would HIGHLY recommend. I also finished Graham Greene's novel The Power and the Glory, which I would also recommend.

Now I'm reading John Bogle's Common Sense on Mutual Funds, which is a slow read, but very valuable.
