Ever had kids and gone to one of those amusement-pizza joints? They have those machines where our kids put in a quarter, pull a lever, and see if they're lucky enough to get the machine to spit out a prize for them. If not, they stick another quarter in, and then another, and then another, and so on until they get that prize. Training the next generation of little gamblers!! smile

So the owners of those "amusement" vending machines, are they eligible for exemption from CTR reporting? Gaming of ANY KIND? Thoughts?

OH, as a parent of 3, I've thought that many times. That's why we don't go to those types of places!

from a CTR reporting perspective....it could be argued either way. I'm sure they don't see it as gaming, its entertainement or something else.

Hi Smash! IMHO, I tend to think it would not be covered as gaming. The CTR for casinos says the following must file - and it (to me) points to gaming that involves the chance of winning money. Again, this is purely my thought of how to analyze what might be defined as gaming. Someone may have a better answer!

Who must file. Any organization duly licensed or authorized to do business as a casino, gambling casino, or card club in the United States and having gross annual gaming revenues in excess of $1 million must file Form 103. This includes the principal headquarters and every domestic branch or place of business of the casino or card club. The requirement includes state-licensed casinos (both land-based and riverboat), tribal casinos, and state licensed and tribal card clubs. Since card clubs are subject to the same reporting rules as casinos, the term “casino” as used in these instructions refers to both a casino and a card club.

I don't think it's gaming either. That was my first thought and I always go with my first instinct.

I just thought about some more and was amused at the similarities and thought it would be a fun topic to post to see what kind of responses I got!
