Can someone tell me if a financial institution can issue a debit card on a HSA account using the same bin number as their regular checking accounts? Are we required to establish a separate program through VISA?

Bump. I'm out of my element when it comes to debit card processing and bins. However, I'm thinking if you are going to have HSA transaction qualifications then you should setup a seprate bin, but if you do not then you can process them through the same bin as checking accounts. Anyone have thoughts on this?

When we started issuing debit cards for our HSA account we had to have a whole new bin. There are restrictions on the usage of the cards. Ours will not work everywhere, such as gas stations.

We issued under the same BIN using a suffix so our processor could identify it as an HSA for production.
