What happens if you have a foreign individual with only a foreign ID that presents a check drawn from your bank over $10k and wants to cash it? I know the CTR instructions say you can put NONE, but won't that trigger a returned invalid CTR?

The foreign individual claims to not be working and therefore no I-TIN. We do know the item is legit and have spoke with the issuer who is a long time customer.

Would most banks cash the check?

We have had these transactions before (we have several hundred foreign clients) and complete a CTR as usual. We haven't gotten returned CTRs yet on any of them, though CTRs for these clients are few and far between. If you have checked the validity of the check with the issuer, I see nothing wrong with cashing the check.

We had to file a CTR without a number recently and have not had it returned. Just make sure to format "NONE" correctly.
