Way back when... customers were given the same account number for Savings and DDA's. Fast forward to the day of BSA/AML software and find major issue.

We want to assign a new prefix to the savings account numbers to distinguish them from the DDA. For example, all existing savings accounts would have a 22 added in front of them. Ultimately, this means a new savings account number for the customer.

I'm not finding any regulatory notice of change requirement, but this is beyond compliance. Has anyone else gone through something like this and what did you do to notify customers, etc. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks

I've seen this done due to mergers. Sometimes you run into duplicate account numbers and have to make a change. Notification was always involved, including the fact they may need to contact anyone they have direct deposit, auto debits, etc, with.

Usually, they can continue to use their current check stock until exhausted.
