Hawaii trip recommendations

Headed off to Hawaii in a few weeks - Oahu and the Big Island - and was wondering if anyone has some recommendations for some good local casual restaurants (nothing hoity-toity), snorkeling/sailing trips, or other recommended adventures. Restaurants we like would be on the level of something profiled on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.
I visited Hawaii many years ago, but my husband has not. We will have a rental car so we can get around both islands easily.
Thanks!

Was there a couple years ago (Did Oahu and Maui). Far as Oahu, we didn't make it there, but on the north side there is suppose to be awesome shrimp farms.
On Oahu, We ate at Dukes, the Cheesecake Factory, Jimmy Buffets place and then just hit little shops as we walked around.
Make sure to get the local Mojo, it is surprisingly good.

I highly recommend doing this food tour on Oahu - http://www.hawaiifoodtours.com We had a great time tasting at all the little hole in the wall places that we would never find on our own. You're picked up in a very nice van with a total of maybe 8 people, and you're driven all over Honolulu to taste all the local specialties. It may look pricey but it was well worth the money. If you visit the Diners, Drive Ins and Dives website, you can find the list of places that Guy has featured on his show.

Also on Oahu, there is the crater you can go into and then walk up to the top. There was a really good "street vendor" selling stuff inside, it was very good.

Thanks for all the great suggestions! It will be fund to check all these places out. (and I like SPAM. My mom cooked it, so I grew up with it.)
Keep the ideas coming in!
I drove to Hana when I was in Maui on my last trip. It was a long ride and when we got there, we looked at each other and said "This is it?"

I have a guy that works for me and enters those eating challenges and wins and he's not heavy. I swear if I just smell food, the pounds pile on.

Check out the flea market at the stadium on Saturdays. It is the best place for gifts. http://www.alohastadiumswapmeet.net/ If you are eligible, check out the HaleKoa, the luau is great! http://www.halekoa.com/index.cfm If you scuba, I have been out with Larry from http://www.oahuscubadiving.com - Good guy On one of our trips we dove the YO-257 and San Pedro wrecks they were cool because of the sea life, but also the submarine full of tourists that comes and makes figure 8s around the wrecks while we were there, ti was a cool experience. Have a fun trip!

If you've never been to Oahu before, definitely visit the Pearl Harbor-USS Arizona memorial. It's a very special place. Be sure to go early - otherwise you will wait in a very long line.

I don't know if you are a compliance officer, but you may want to schedule an interview here. Then maybe you can deduct the expense of the trip from you taxes Bank of Hawaii posted a job you may be interested in: Senior Credit Compliance Officer in Honolulu, Hawaii

I happened to catch the Hawaii show of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives over the weekend and jotted down the restaurants profiled. Looked like there were some great places to check out.

Thanks! Get the "Revealed" guidebooks. They are blue and have a picture of whichever island on them. I have "Maui Reveled" and it is the best book out there for all the stuff you can do on the islands. 5 stars based on hundreds of reviews can't be wrong...: http://www.amazon.com/Oahu-Revealed-Ultimate-Honolulu-Revisited/dp/0981461026

Go early on your first morning there...that way time is on your side (it won't feel as early as it is). Early means liek 7am...you want to get there before the first tour busses dump off their loads.
