Recently I received a letter from the DOT, Criminal Investigation Unit for backup documentation on a SAR filed in March 2010. Is it OK to respond to this letter or should I have them formalize their request in the form of a subpoena? Thanks.

Law enforcement does not to present a subpoena for SAR supporting documentation. As long as you veify that the request is proper, you're covered.
