Believe it or not, I am working on my first livestock loan!! Do we file the UCC in the state our debitor is registered in or the state where the livestock are held?

Also, should we file PMSI since this is a loan to purchase the livestock?

Thanks for any assistance.

If you are in a brand area, you should consider also obtaining a security interest in your borrower's registered brands. May save you major headaches in collections/liquidation scenarios.

File in the state where the debtor is organized if a corporation, or where he lives if an individual.

The fact that you're asking about a PMSI makes me wonder if there are other creditors out there with prior security interests in this farmers livestock. If so, that always raises the question about repossession. How will you recognize your cows from all the others? They are not very good about responding to their names when called.
