Do any of you use the IRS TIN matching program to verify SSN? I'd be interested in hearing how or what you are using it for....

Yes. We use the interactive matching to verify SSNs for all interest-bearing deposit accounts that are established. This ensures that we are titling the account in such a way that it will match the IRS/SSA records when we file 1099s. This way we can catch any problems before they become 1099 issues.

I've also used the batch matching for existing accounts with some success, but I'm trying to refine my selection to only accounts that would qualify for the 1099.

This is an old thread, but I'm bumping this question. I have a new employee using this at account opening. Anything I need to be aware of if we choose to continue this practice? I'm not familiar with it.

If you are using this to verify SSNs for non-interest bearing accounts (you can only use the program if you are going to be doing IRS reporting) then you are in violation of the IRS program agreement.
