I have wood floors and tile throughout my house. I am wanting to purchase a good steam mop, but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what to buy or what to stay away from. I looking at purchasing a "Shark". Any suggestions??

I have many "Shark" products now and after a while they all are put in the back of a closet. I will not buy another.

Agree with Ed. We bought one at Sam's, used it twice and took it back. It really didn't do much.

I never personally used either, but I do remember paying for two Shark products (a steam mop and a sweep vac) not too terribly long before my wife told me I needed to pay for two other more expensive products to replace them.

We have the Shark hand held and the mop. We are happy with the mop-the hand held is pretty good as well, but leave "fuzzies" on the mirror/glass.

I have the older shark steam mop. I liek that it doesnt use chemicals but unless you do a really good job of sweepign and dusting your floors, they will have a dull finish and steaks (or maybe it has nothign to do with that?). You won't get a nice shine, but you might think it's worth it to get away from harsh cleaners and polish. I have laminate floors and liek the steam mop btu then again, my floors aren't showy at all.
I bougth mien at Costco and it included 3 extra pads (for a total of FIVE) which is nice...I have enough that I can change the pad out a few times when I'm cleaning so I'm not pushing around a grimy pad.

I have the Shark pocket steamer (I think that's what it's call; you can flip the pad for twice as much continuous cleaning) and was happy with it. Then it just stopped working after two years. I'll replace it, because I like being able to avoid excess chemicals, but Dip is right about making sure you vacuum well first.

Hot water just doesn't clean the floor as well as using some sort of cleaning fluid (bleach, detergents, etc.)

http://www.amazon.com/Euro-Pro-Shark-S3101-Electric-Steam/dp/B000V4Q8GAThat's the older model I have. And they do clean very well. The steam looses up gunk liek nobody's business. Btu if the floor is really dirty, you HAVE to change pads as you go. But liek I said, at least on MY laminate floors, you don't get a polish shine. I do get streaks but supposedly that's either dirt (floor wasn't dirt free or you have too much dirt in the pad), old built-up polish and cleansers already embedded in the floor, or detergent residue on the pads. I wash my pads in the washing machien without fabric softener and I let them air dry.

they will have a dull finish and steaks would put up with the dull finish if I can get the steaks.

Spend a little bit more and get a Hoover spin brush. It works 3 times better than the Shark, and you can use vinegar as a cleaning agent to avoid chemicals. No streaks, it is virtually dry when you're done, and it cleans really well. You'll be shocked at how much dirt is on your floor the first time you use it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I really want somehting that will clean the grout between the tile. My floors arent' that dirty, but where I live it gets so dusty and it just a pain trying to mop and get down in the tile grout. Thanks again for the info. Everyone have a good Veterans Day, and if you are a veteran, THANK YOU.

We have an Oreck Orbiter and we love it. It was kind of pricey but it works on all floor types - laminate, vinyl, carpet, tile, even concrete (garage floor). Since we have all of these, we thought it was worth the investment and so far it has been. The vinyl floors look like new.
