It would depend on who you are feeding it to I have contacted a few of the higher quality dog food manufacturers - such as Natural Balance, Wellness, etc., to ask if they use horsemeat in their products such as dry, canned or frozen dog foods. Their response? No. Why? Because the quality of the horse meat did not meet their standards! Not only that, but Natural Balance also produces food for zoos to feed their carnivores such as Lions, Tigers, etc., and they indicated most accredited zoos will not accept horse meat because of the detrimental affect they have observed on their animals.

I will eat any kind of meat, as long as it isn't sacrified to idols.

Ok horsey friends that I know are lurking...why is nitrofurazone on the list? No...I dont eat it, but I do slather it on every cut/scrape I, the kids, horses, dogs or cows have.
(this is one of those moments I reach for my phone to text my dad the veterinarian and really miss him) nitrofurazone - scary stuff. I only use it for sweat wraps (do you have any idea how much heat that cr@p generates?!?!). Cuts and scrapes are treated with generic antibiotic ointments or aloe salve. DMSO - creeps me out. Mostly because I can't stand oysters and getting even a little bit of DMSO on me makes everything taste like raw oysters for a couple of days. And have you ever smelled a foundered horse that was tubed with DMSO? They STINK for about a week. I will still use it for treating soft tissue injuries (mixed with liniments, etc), but will only handle it with latex gloves on.

Princess Romeo, thanks for all the info. We're horse and dog owners, and it's all very good info to know.

heard on the radio this monring one of the morning DJs saying we shouldn't eat any animal that has the ability to develop feelings or show appreciation to humans. The "country" guy on their said "yeah, but I like eating lamb too, you telling me that is now off the table." Silence for a few seconds and then he said "umm, nevermind"

And they got a hump and these cool horns! Of course they got a hump, otherwise they would go extinct. Thank you Captain Obvious!

If one of mine doesn't stop tearing the float valve off of the water trough, we're going to find out exactly how edible horses might be. You know they do that on purpose, right? Just to pizz you off!
