Yes, I know. But now they've gone too far. I found one of the goldfish who live in the trough stomped into a mud puddle in front of it this morning.

and here's a mystery for you - a smaller goldfish suddenly appeared in the trough about a week ago. I have no idea how it got there!

I put 5 in two springs ago. One vanished that summer, the other four were fine and huge (almost frying size) when this new white one about half their size appeared last week. Now one of the big ones has met a muddy end.

Now one of the big ones has met a muddy end. Do birds frequent the trough? They can carry fish eggs on their whittle dirty birdy feet. Or the goldfish spawn before the trouncing...and the whittle baby fish was too small to see until now?

That reminds me of the camp song that has the line
Roasty toasty birdies feet....
Right up there with the eating worms song. Were you guys eating mushrooms at this camp....?
