With the switch to direct deposit or cards, we have seen a HUGE increase in cash advances which we cannot charge for (we charged a check cashing fee for non-customers). Cash advances take much longer and require additional documentation. I would like to know what other banks are doing?

We would much prefer them to use our ATM because then we can charge, but they have learned if they come inside for a cash advance it is free.

I think this is just going to be a cost of doing business.

Has anyone considered doing away with cash advance machines? Would there be any implications if we did this?

Review your Visa/MC agreement regarding providing cash advances before doing anything.
