The test results given to my daughter Suzanne today by the Dr. indicate the worst possible scenario for little 4 year old Savannah...she has a very bad UPJ in her left kidney. Will require surgery again on Wed. February 1st. Just like her very first surgery on the right kidney 2 years ago, but much worse now on the left kidney. Please keep my "Savi" in your thoughts and prayers... (more will be posted on www.thelifeofsuz.blogspot.com)

Ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction is a blockage in the area that connects the renal pelvis (part of the kidney) to one of the tubes (ureters) that move urine to the bladder.

Causes
UPJ obstruction generally is called a congenital condition (present from birth). Most of the time, the blockage is caused when the connection between the ureter and the renal pelvis narrows. This causes urine to build up, damaging the kidney.

Surgery to correct the blockage allows urine to flow normally. Open (invasive) surgery is usually performed in infants. A tube called a stent may be placed to drain urine from the kidney until the patient heals

Savannah, Suz and the whole family are in my prayers. How long is the recovery time, and once this is done, will this be the end of her troubles?

Well this is the 5th surgery I believe, and last year the well respected Dr. who we love thought that one was the last one, so I don't really know if this is the end of her surgeries, but it is probably not the end of her troubles down the line (high blood pressure, other associated problems) As far as recovery time, Savannah has always recovered very well in just a few days, however, in a month or so after surgery, has to go back, be put under and have a stent removed.

Thank you all for your prayers and concerns, and please don't forget the 02-02-2012 surgery date.

OH NO. Bless her sweet little heart. We'll be remembering Savannah, Suz and the rest of the family as they go through this again. It's always so stressful when our babies are sick, even if everything goes well.

Savannah was in surgery this a.m. for about two hours and came through very well. Her internal anatomy has been messed up and an artery was on top of the ureter, putting pressure and blockage on it. It is supposed to be under the ureter. So the ?Dr. cut the ureter in two and removed the bad blocked part and then sewed or reattached it on top of the artery the way it is supposed to me. All this laproscopically and or microscopically, taking extreme care not to nick or cut the artery, because that would have been disastrous. Thank God and all of you who have been praying for this successful outcome.

On another note, quad Ben couldn't breathe last night at midnight and Suz and Joe had to take him to the ER, but left as he got better. Has asthma, but couldn't talk and eyes showed fright. So Suz then got up after 45 min. sleep today and took Savi for her surgery. Then this afternoon my DIL (who kept the other 3 quad boys) calls Suz to say Ben has fever. Joe has to leave hospital and take him to their pediatrician, and he has bronchitis and/or walking pneumonia, now being treated with antibiotics. SO ALL IN ALL, a day they will never forget!

Savi was released from the hospital last night. She phoned Papa and Granna from the car on the way home; she was ecstatic and so HAPPY.

God has given us a challenging, but good week. Our family is so thankful for all your prayers.

It's been 2 weeks since Savi's surgery and she is doing great. Went to school last week (T-T), church, a movie, a little trip, etc. Just totally back to normal and dressed up in red today for Valentine's at her school.
