We open accounts on-line. We may expand the area we accept deposits from, which would include another state.

In my initial research it looks like if we have unclaimed property we turn it over to the state where the customer lives, not the state where the bank is chartered.

Just curious if anyone else has experience with this for online accounts?

Any good resources for researching this topic?

You are correct, generally it is the laws of the state of the owner's residence, not those of the state where the bank is located, that control escheat. (At least that's what the state where the owner lives usually says.)

The National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators is a great resource.
