So I've been noticing a resurgence of 80's and 90's soft-rock songs on the radio all of sudden... REO Speedwagon, Bryan Adams, Chicago, etc. I know they're on the cheesy side, but they take me back to when I was a teenager / young adult.

"You're the Inspiration" just played during lunch, and I found myself emotionally transported back to 1993, when I was a 19 year old pining for her fiance in the Navy halfway around the world. I remembered every word, refrain, and harmony in that sappy song like it was yesterday. I'm sure if a co-worker had seen me, they'd have laughed mightily at my steering-wheel karaoke!

E-gads, I had that schmaltzy song played at our wedding. However, the sound technicial forgot to rewind and cue the cassette tape (yes, I'm that old), so during the wedding, the next track started playing instead, which opened with Peter Cetera lamenting "Thought it wouldn't matter... if we didn't stay together..." The next moments were a screeching audio stop, awkward pause for rewind, glances all around, then finally the correct song. Ha! At least we are still married!

My daughter doesn't believe me when I tell her these songs are just remakes of the ones popular when I was her age. If I start singing them - "That's not right -you're not singing it right!" Oh yes I am little one - singing the original.

When I was little, my mom had the sheet music to it and others in a bin on the floor of her walk-in closet. I used to sneak in there and play with it, teach it to my bears. Karma is the first song I ever memorized.

When I was growing up (in the late 80's and 90's!) my parents listened to 60's and 70's oldies stations, so those are ones I think of. I'm apparently unable to remember artists and song titles, but I remember the tune and lyrics!

But I remember the first time I changed the radio to the rock station and got introduced to that new world...it was Push It by Static X. Every time I hear it, it takes me back! Appears that would have been in about 1999.
